There are 2 types of personal work I do. The personal work that ties in with my love for animals which usually is self commissioned and self funded. AND “the personal work” that ties in with my love for documenting everyday mundanities, streets, urbanscapes, urban living, snapshots etc - and this can include inanimate objects only. I’ve always been interested in street photography although I’ve never attempted to photograph the streets in a fashion advocated by professional street photographers, like the works of Greg Marsden, Marco Bok, Magnum’s Alex Webb. Nor do I have the interest to be a street photographer.
This year I decided to give Urban 2015 (6th Edition) a try - a worldwide street/documentary photography competition organised by dotArt, a cultural association formed in Italy (the Italians are champions Western art) that promotes artistic photography, video art, creative writing and their interaction with different forms of expression.
I submitted 5 pieces of my street photography work with an animal theme (a personal project "Street Creatures" I’ve been working on for over 2 years) and 1 image was rated at 152 out of 400 overall entries and is now featured on the Urban 2015 permenant gallery. Not bad for my first attempt.
I elected not to exhibit my work in the travelling show in Europe due to cost reasons.
