Nellie & Annie

From the moment Julianna came into our apartment for the photo session there was a plan. Spending time to win the confidence of our pets she then let them be themselves. Her photography is a form of photojournalism that captures our pets beautifully how they are on their own and how they interact with us. The result is truly endearing.

A testimonial by Marikit by Kitty Choy

Best Photographer EVER! JK captures the best photos - I used her for my very first lookbook. She helped me with concept and location from start to finish! She truly is a talent - not only for pet photography, but for any types of shoot. Have not met another patient photographer like her. Not only have I found my photographer for the rest of my fashion shoots, but have made a true friend xx Thanks JK!

A year ago Julianna approached us to introduce herself and show us examples of her work, and we are so happy that she did. We were so impressed with Julianna’s photography that we commissioned her to document our journey from initial research & planning, site selection, demolition & building, through to opening the doors of our new veterinary hospital in Potts Point.

Building a new business can be a stressful time and we had decided that we would like real local images for our website rather than from photo stock, therefore having someone like Julianna capturing stunning images for us was just what we needed. Julianna was the full package, she did all of the leg work, discovering amazing pet models for our website and liaising with their owners and took the pressure off us. Julianna is a friendly and calm person with vision and eye for detail, suggesting and creating images both beautiful and unique. Nothing was too much trouble & Julianna mucked in work boots & hard hat for the messy on construction site shoots often helping out around the place above & beyond the line of duty!

Our initial impression was rewarded with amazing photographs by an expert in her field. We believe that the quality of the images we have been rewarded with, which show both our history and our aspirations, are solely due to her expertise. We will continue to use Julianna in the future & recommend her.

Thanks to working with Julianna we have a catalogue of wonderful images reminding us of an exciting chapter in our lives.

A testimonial by Debbie O (pet Pom Pom)

twoguineapigs_pom_french_bulldog_framed_sydney_pet_photographer_1500.jpg

I am the proud owner on a French bulldog called Pom Pom. I wanted to capture his beautiful features and personality while he was still young and before this mature personality and grey speckles of fur settled in. While I was scanning the Internet for pet photographers, Julianna's work captured my eye. I felt the pictures not only looked amazing but so many of them told a warm  heartfelt story.

Julianna puts so much effort into researching the area in which we live. She listened to what I wanted to capture plus placed suggestions forward. She worked with us and Pom Pom so gracefully. Never any pressure to pose , just natural fun shots. It was a delightful shoot.

The end products were incredible. Juilanna manages to capture the story, relationship and love between animal and human. The hardest part is to choose only some of the photos from the amazing range she produces from you. Julianna was always on hand to offer professional advice in a very humble way.

Thank you for the amazing photos of Pom Pom which capture his beautiful personality and which I can now cherish forever.

An interview with Editor Marta Roca.

Although her work is commissioned by a wide range of people, Koh-Blackwell is not interested in staged set ups. “Basically, I just want to make good documentary images” she says frankly. Photoshoots can last up to two hours, with the photographer making herself almost invisible, a talent which grants her access to very intimate moments. Read more >>

An interview with Little Muse.

Today we have a fun and interesting ‘What’s In My Bag’ – the kit of a talented and multi award-winning pet photographer, Julianna Koh Blackwell.

Based in Sydney but (we loved this line) willing to travel as far as her ‘trusted employee’ a 1964 Beetle will take her, Julianna spends her days shooting animals and their owners ‘with attitude’.

As for her gear, there’s lots of the usual stuff, a dream for something new and a few of the unexpected – a maybe chicken or fish and always a blue cat… read on!

A testimonial by Lori S (pet Zac)

Julianna, your photos of Zac are simply beautiful. He is a very excitable pooch and your photos captured his character perfectly. Thank you again for such stunning images.

A testimonial by Julie C (pet Gertie)

Well, well … my little supermodel has clearly hit the big time and is now an internet hit! I am most impressed. The prints from the shoot that you made for me are just stunning! Apart from your natural eye for shooting animals in all their cheeky, gorgeous idiosyncrasy, your attention to detail really stands out. The prints are mounted perfectly and are also titled. All in all, an excellent, ultra-professional job. These are prints that I will treasure for a lifetime. Highly recommended.

A testimonial by Amy Smith

I have been working with Julianna now for over 2 years. Her work is beautiful and she shoots most of my Puppy Classes and my clients are always very impressed. She is professional and has an amazing talent for getting the puppies to do what she needs in a posed shot or creeping around and capturing amazing natural photos.
I also had the pleasure of Julianna shooting the birth of my third baby, to say that we were ecstatic with the photos would be an understatement. Her documentary style of shooting really captured the whole journey of my third son's birth and I am truly grateful to be able to look back at that for the rest of my life.

I came across your work on the Four&Sons website and I just wanted to let you know that your photographs brought tears to my eyes...tears of love and joy. You seem to know what we see in our beautiful pets...how in one shot you focused on the cats white paws...something I used to do often when we had our old cat.
Thank you and I hope you get to meet lots more fabulous pets and their owners.

Shiver our timbers we love this visual diary by twoguineapigs Photography. Why it makes us speak like sea-faring miscreants we don’t really know, but one thing is certain, it’s one of the coolest blog posts we’ve ever had the privilege of putting up. JK Blackwell (Julianna to her friends) has portrayed florist Antonia Georges in a manner so pure you can almost see the stills coming to life.

What I love most about an early morning walk is the crisp air, natural beauty and quiet stillness…actually, let’s be honest – it’s what I think I would like most about early morning walks! The reality for me is that this stillness I dream about is more often than not broken by the sounds of a babies crying.

If, perchance, I was out for a walk in a field or a forest in the still of the day, I would hope to walk into something like this dreamy scene created and captured by the likes of Jonothan David, Julianna Koh-Blackwell, Blooms by Bethan, Liv Lundelius and Patrick Bell (names you need to remember).
