When I was commissioned for this shoot, I was informed ahead of time that it might be a chaotic one - simply because it would involve a ferret and two cats. This little family of 4 I met left some unforgettable moments and will always be one very special session for me.
When I arrived, ‘Mum’ welcomed me to ‘the zoo’ as she affectionately put it. I was gradually exposed to it - in a good and comical way that is. 'Mum' said: Surprise me. I trust you to do your thing. So I did my thing.
Beni the ferret is seven years old but still looks like a ‘puppy’. When I arrived, he was fast asleep and had to be woken up for his portrait. Beni had trouble staying awake initially but when he saw how much his feline siblings were having fun, he woke up and played along.
Sook is four years old. Unlike a typical Bengal, she’s rather shy and reserved. Still vocal. I was warned that Sook may hide in the presence of a stranger. But she gradually warmed up to me and became very curious about what was in my camera bag.
Pepa is two years old, a Siamese, and, unlike a typical Siamese, reminded me of one of my own, PF. Hyper active, and a little terror herself (a cute one mind you).
‘Mum’ assured me that all three used to hang out in one spot together; and they snuggled up to sleep. But as they grew older, they preferred their own space. So it would be pretty hard to get them together in a single frame.
I spent the morning hanging out with ‘Mum’, Beni, Sook & Pepa - watching them play together - and yes - I did managed to get that elusive group shot!
